The fantastic link between Calmore Sports Club and club cricket in Melbourne is once again in full effect with batsman Ben Johns heading out to Melbourne today (19 September) for a winter of cricket with Brighton Cricket Club.

Ben will be joining up with 2017 overseas player Jack Rutter and following in the footsteps of Calmore opening batsman Matt Hardy, who enjoyed an outstanding season with Brighton in 2016/17, returning as the second leading run scorer across all grades.

Others, like Mark Lavelle, James Rose, Jimmy Manning and James Hibberd have all spent winters in Victoria, improving and developing their games ‘Down Under’ with great results and impressive performances.

20-year-old Ben, who recently clocked up 100 appearances for Calmore in the SPCL, heads out today and will return in April ahead of the 2019 season and travels with the best wishes of everyone at Loperwood Park on this exciting passage of his life, both cricketing and personal.

Good luck Ben – look forward to reading the reports of plentiful runs scored.
