Following two highly successful years of women’s cricket at Calmore Sports Club, we are delighted to announce that Hampshire Cricket Board have named us as a ‘focus club’ for the 2019 season, targeting the development of the young girls playing in the Colts teams under 15.

Under the guidance of coach Tom Perry and Welfare Officer Abbi Finney, Calmore Sports Women have made great strides at senior level but, within the Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 age group sides, the club can boast a further 10 girls and the HCB have stated that they are keen to develop this further in future years and recruit more girls through the Chance to Shine and through local schools programmes.

This is a significant stride towards the clubs’ hope to progressing the women’s team into the mainstream Hampshire Cricket Leagues, having played in W10 Leagues and club festivals over the course of the last two seasons.

Club Chairman Pete Lavelle, at the club’s AGM last night (29 November) said, “this is a really big opportunity to build on what has been achieved over the last couple of years through the very hard work of all involved and to see the HCB taking an interest in what we are trying to achieve at Calmore Sports is great testimony to that.

“This will enable us to progress the young girls playing in the U9, U11 and U13 teams and attract more to join so we can develop a full girls team and continue to work with them growing up.”
