Mark Lavelle has been reappointed as the Calmore Sports Club first XI captain for a second season following the club’s annual general meeting.

Lavelle, who took over the reigns for the sides’ season in Division 1 of the Southern Premier League in 2015, ultimately ending in relegation, but was given the task of taking the side back to that level in 2016.

“I am delighted to have been given the job of captaining the first XI again”, he said.  “It was a difficult job last season leading the side is such a competitive league but I think we are all stronger for the experience and we can use that to our benefit in 2016.

“However, we need to be more professional in our approach for the new season, starting with a real onus of training.  It needs to be better and more frequent, hence why during April, we are training Tuesday’s and Thursday’s – this is not only to get more pre-season work in and hit the ground running but also, if we only had one day and it was wet, that’s the weeks training gone.

“I do have a good feeling about the 2016 season, we just need to ensure we get everyone buying in and pushing on that next step with the players we have and that should be possible as we have the potential and it could be a great year for us.”
