It is with great regret that the club has learned of the passing of former player, treasurer and Honorary Life Member Eric Morgan, who passed away on Sunday 28th December, following a long battle with illness.

Eric, a lower-order batsman and skilful slow bowler who claimed a huge pile of wickets with his impressive guile, played for the club for a number of years in the 1980s but his work off the field as Treasurer, especially around the period when the club were moving from the old King George V Playing Fields ground to their current home at Loperwood Park, was key to its success.

A fervent supporter of the club in more recent years, following the careers of his sons David and Steve, who he appeared on the field with on many occasions, and subsequently grandsons Harry and Ben, he was diagnosed with cancer but battled continually with his normal great humour and humanity.

His passing has been particularly felt by many at Calmore Sports.

“It is with great sorrow that the club have heard of the passing of another club stalwart in Eric.  We would like to offer the family our deepest felt condolences at this very sad time and our thoughts are with them all”, said club Chairman Pete Lavelle.

And former Club President and a man that Eric worked alongside for many years, Mike Bowring, also added, “The Christmas period is often tinged with sadness and the club were saddened with the news that Eric Morgan, our Treasurer for many years, has passed away.

“We will all miss him.  He was vital in his job guiding us through part of the time after our move to Loperwood.”

Former club opening batsman Paul Draper added his thoughts.  “Sad news.  Eric was a fantastic servant to the club over many, many years and gave superb financial direction to the club in challenging times.”

There were also comments from another former club Chairman, Steve Brandes.  “Very sad – Eric was a lovely man who will be greatly missed.  My thoughts are with his family.”

Eric Morgan – Calmore Sports – Rest in Peace and thank you for your continued hard work and devotion to our cause.
