If there is ever a man you want to be involved in your club, then Darren Vann is that man and the club were delighted to award him with a special memento to mark his 100th SPCL appearance for the club before the game with Hartley Wintney at the end of August.

Joining the club after a number of successful seasons with Alton, Darren came to the club in 2010 and took the first XI captaincy reigns as the club returned to the Southern Premier League after a short break and he led the side for five seasons, taking the club to promotion to Division One in his final season as skipper in 2014.

His record of 78 matches as captain is the most for the club with a 59.15% win percentage but it is as a batsman and wicket-keeper that he excelled.  92 dismissals behind the stumps, added to 2,090 runs at a decent average of 23.22, striking a century against St Cross Symondians II in 2010 and eight 50s marks him out as one of the stellar performers for the club in recent times.

However, it is not only his on field performances that set him apart, his work behind the scenes with the club’s youth teams, including being a leading light in the All Stars Cricket programme, make his a prominent member of Calmore Sports Club and his 100 matches in the first XI – batting in every single position from 1 to 9 in the team – shows what a club man he is.

Congratulations Darren – 100 matches in the SPCL for Calmore Sports.
